Social media is no longer just a place to keep in touch with friends. It’s creating a new wave of marketing that can jump-start your business or refresh your customer base. Emarketer predicts that 800 million people worldwide will be participating in a social network with their mobile phones by 2012, an increase from 82 million in 2007. Pew Internet Research found that 82% of adults age 18-29 and 73% of 12 to 17 year-olds use social networking sites. Since social media is so important in these favorable demographics it is essential that your small business incorporates social media into your marketing strategy.
As social media outlets that provide member interaction and speedy updates, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn provide vast networking possibilities. Once these networks are tapped into, these social media can provide a way to not only strengthen your customer base, but also expand it. True Blue Media offers setup and content management services for all the social media discussed below.
Tumblr allows you to provide more in-depth information on your business, while providing detailed information on new incentives and industry tips. Using Tumblr enables you to go beyond the length limitations inherent with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, but not to the point where it is overwhelming to the visitor.
Location-based social media is the newest wave in social networking. Sites like Foursquare, Facebook Places and Google Places allow members to alert their friends when they visit geographical locations, bringing digital marketing out of the computer-only realm and into the physical. These services allow members to notify their friends and family about their location, enabling them to discuss, market and tip one another to the benefits of your business. All three services allow you to list your information, with Google Places and Foursquare showing extensive lists of your services. Engaging your business in these networks also expands your presence on the web. Google Places, for example, increases your search engine ranking, enabling more potential members to learn more about your business.
YouTube offers a unique outreach campaign for your business – an opportunity to explain visually exactly what your business does and offers to a younger audience who may not fully understand your services. We offer everything from typography-based videos to instructional videos. We offer more video services here.
Flickr, as an image hosting site and online community, allows you to share your marketing materials and any product images you have. This is not only a way for people to understand your business’ services, but also provide them with more visual examples of your services.
